GT3 Cup 2004 Race Season

Tech 9 Motorsport have returned to Liverpool triumphant after taking victory in the sixteenth and final round of the 2004 British GT Championship at Brands Hatch.

With a nail biting finale that saw DRM and Tech 9 tied on 88 points and the title hanging precariously in the balance, Adam Sharpe and Dominic Lesniewski drove a fantastic last race that sealed the Team Championship for the second year running.

Adam Sharpe was leading the race outright but a shrewd call from Team boss Phil Hindley not to pit when most other teams did, allowed the #76 911 GT3 to gain almost a lap on the rest of the cup class field and gave Lesniewski an easy run to victory.

“I wanted to come in when the safety car was on track, but Phil, quite rightly, kept me out,” Sharpe said. “I'm really pleased to have clinched the team title for Tech 9. The team has worked hard all season and deserves the title.”

In what is regarded as the toughest class of GT racing, the Tech 9 #76 Porsche took the most wins throughout the Championship and beat 14 other teams for the prestigious GT team title. Adam Sharpe also came third in the driver championship.

“To win the Championship again is fantastic and a huge achievement,” Phil remarked. “We took the opportunity to enter our brand new 996 GT3 RS at Brands Hatch as part of our test and evaluation programme for 2005. Mark Cole and Adam Jones were entrusted with the job of piloting the new machine and it showed tremendous speed ‘out of the box’, heading the free practice time sheets for the majority of the session. Mark showed tremendous speed during his stint despite the wet conditions and was consistently the fastest car on the track as he fought through the traffic.”

Phil was more than happy with new car’s performance, “A credible third place qualifying for race one, backed up by a fourth position in race two was an impressive debut. Despite a couple of electrical gremlins that stopped the car in the first race and affected the second, to qualify 21 hundredths of a second slower than the NGT championship winning 2004 GT3 RSR was superb.”

Tech 9 will now be preparing the car ready for the Bahrain Festival in November where Adam Sharpe will step up a class and fight for the N-GT honours.
